LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - BLOW PRESENTS...GEMMA SLACK
Following Charlie Me Mindu, Gemma Slack's second collection stampeded down the catwalk. A summer interpretation of her previous collection, Gemma maintained her own aesthetic whilst rendering it appropriate for the summer months. This meant leather was slashed and cut out, and exquisitely cut and moulded into high-waisted hot pants and skintight trousers and dresses.
Gemma's use of prints was incorporated into flighty silk crop tops, a delicate touch, transformed by its coupling with leather, a blistering soundtrack, strong make-up and slicked back hair. Where it was leather shoulder pieces last season, the accessories of this collection resulted in conical aluminium neck and headpieces, a motif which was echoed in the sharp shoulders, Husam El Odeh-esque panelling of several pieces and astounding, hand moulded showpiece finale dress, replete with protruding peplum and conical skirt. Taking her bow in a Steel Panther t-shirt, Gemma's sartorial tribute to 80s hair metal summed up a strong, fierce collection.
