LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - JW ANDERSON
Showing in his second season at MAN, JW Anderson reconciled a myriad of influences. Sportswear influences, reportedly from extensive research into basketball uniforms, resounded in leggings, cycling shorts, lightweight double woven silk tanks, and skintight t-shirts. This stealthy aesthetic impacted upon impeccably simple pieces; a long length lapel-less blazer in white silk, a tank top with cut out sides and in a continuation from their appearance in his S/S10 pre-collection, dungerees rendered in lightweight silk.
As Jonathan concluded his A/W09 collection with a flowing bustle, feminine influnces bounced around this Spring/Summer incarnation. Longer length t-shirts, tapered at the waist, skin-tight body-conscious tunics layered over leggings, and high-waisted, wide legged trousers all in silk questioned definitions of masculinity, rather than existing as a mere depiction of men in women's clothes.
Tribal touches were evident in piled-on bangles, high necked beaded crop tops, and woven Fez's, and Jonathan's skill with accessories - he did after all begin with a focus upon accessories - resulted in immediately covetable oversized boxy rucksacks in leather and canvas. A collection which exhibited minimal fuss but which is sure to provoke maximum reaction, JW in reconciling the seemingly irreconcilable, again compounds London's status as the prime destination for innovative menswear.
