LONDON FASHION WEEK A/W2010-11 – ELLIOT J FREIZE

Previously the Director of QASIMI and Michiko Koshino, Elliott J Frieze took to the solo stage for the first time, presenting a collection ringing with classic, and distinctly British, heritage. Shift dresses, rendered in subtle pinstripe, napped grey flannel and Prince of Wales check were tiered and ruffled, cut tight on the body and given a youthful twist via sweetheart necklines and solid hestnut brown skull-caps.

Tailoring too balanced masculine and feminine, youth and tradition as blazers and trenches both double and single breasted in navy, black and grey were cut slightly broad on the shoulder and cinched at the waist before kicking into undulating peplums, complimented by exquisitely cut pencil skirts and the occasional white shirt and tie combination.  Sheer irridescent gauze communicated a lightness of touch, appearing in shirts and lightweight dresses as a less structured variation on a still classic riff.

A finale gown - in an entrance signalled by a dimming of lights and a balletic change in tone, hit the floor in fishtail ruffles, and interspersed gems its clean structure recalling the work of Roland Mouret,  In the menswear department, rockabilly quiffs and sharply cut tailoring, again in Prince of Wales check and tones of black and navy,  when paired with lightweight grey flannel trousers tucked into socks, hiking boots and leather gloves, epitomizing a collection which concurrently celebrated heritage and innovation.
