LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2011 - PPQ

A seasonally appropriate abandonment of the rich, sumptuous hues of Autumn/Winter, PPQ concluded the first day of London Fashion Week with bursting, summer optimism. Entitled 'Hassan', an invocation of the East saw Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker lead the audience on a trail through time, continent and occasion. With miniature, woven Fez's perched atop full, straight locks, the first exit -  a black sun dress trimmed with ruffles in primary brights - set a tone of buoyant, exotic elegance.

Box pleat skirts and high waisted, tapered trousers, textured cotton jackets, and stiff formal shorts, second-skin long sleeved t-shirts and looped, languid shawl collar blouses composed a concentration on separates with fabrication in crepe, silk and cotton mix duppions and a vivid, saturated palette of mustard and fuchsia - offset against rusted turmeric, porcelain blue and accents of black and white - signalling the union of souk and sartorial. Affiliating day and evening, a newly introduced print - geometric animal print tussling with traditional tile patterns - experienced application across t-shirts, baby doll and maxi-dresses, knee length skirts and vanity cases.

The perennial transformed with a PPQ nuance, sweetheart necklines, undulating hems, sash style straps, backless detailing and lip derived silhouettes exuded a joyful naivety before a final parade of full, peasant style dresses - off the shoulder, accentuating bust and finished with side ties - gave way to stripes. In cream and blue, a flash at the peplum of a cocktail dress extended to envelope a pair of high waisted shorts and eventually a full length pyjama style gown, concluding an apparent move from East to West, day to night.
