LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2011 – HOLLY FULTON

Topped with oversized earrings, primary hued raybans and bouncing bouffant locks swept back off the face, Holly Fulton channelled a Dynasty era Joan Collins to send her woman on a whipcrack cruise of Monaco, Egypt, Brazil and Hollywood. Moving away from the city and subsequently her signature monochromatic metropolis print, an affluent ease wafted through a revitalized riff on Sixties cruise wear.

Commencing with a vivid orange silk t-shirt paired with a tiered knee length skirt - full layers of fringe symbolically eclipsing a city print - maxi dresses and wide legged silk pants, bandeau bikinis, pencil skirts and flowing, louche shirts, in a soft, pastel palette of muted yellow, cream, blush pink, mint and alice blue captured the repose of resort. Punctuated with graphic placement prints at centre and at side seam -  inspiration derived from the symmetry and irregularity of the Memphis school - dusted tones of rust and charcoal, accented with an occasional burst of cobalt, infused the classic with an energetic, irrefutably Fulton touch.

Moving from day to evening, separates to statement singular, a patent yellow prom-style dress, kicky skirt punched with Martini cocktail pattern, pre-empted a move into all-out embellishment. From shifts to wrap dresses, halter neck variations and slinking, short crew neck cuts, swarovski crystals and minute, gathered bands of tinsel piping bounded with celebratory glee whilst glittering clouds - skirting across a final three pieces - brought the summer skies to Somerset House.
