PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
In a pre-show interview Alexander McQueen described his designer status as un-elitist, and in streaming his Spring/Summer 2010 show live online, he removed the boundaries that exist between front row and fanatic, and furthered the true democratisation of fashion that has already seen bloggers sit front row at Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana and Rodarte.
With a collection inspired by Plato's Atlantic, McQueen presented - in his desire for fantasy rather than reality - an escapist collection where kaleidoscopic prints mingled with exaggerated shoulders, towering platforms with equally towering hair. Accompanied by towering cameras which never appeared incongruous, an intergalactic, serpentile and alien woman emerged, presenting McQueen's unwavering, uncompromising, and stimulating vision of the future in both fashion and technology.
