PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – MIU MIU
"I was questioning innocence, questioning youth" said Miuccia Prada regarding the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2010 collection. This questioning of youth resulted in trouser suits, concurrently naive with their John Wesley illustrations of swallows, florals, cats, naked bodies, engulfing everything from shirts, trousers stripped of a waistband, and cropped jackets - and sophisticated - they were in DNA trouser suits in black and navy.
Segmentation, in cut away jackets revealing a a flash of flesh, cropped jackets layered over shirts, sliced at the waist by bands of fabric and the same halter shape that made an appearance at Prada, had an air of Prada A/W 08, though revitalised in tactile fabrics. Suits transitioned into dresses in nude tones which - embellished with silver sequins and gently puffed shoulders - maintained a heady confluence of ingenue and adult.
Shoes were clunky, platformed and almost awkward in shape - a girl in her mother's shoes? – confirming to the return of nineties footwear to the catwalk, and surely soon to the streets. Hitting the perfect middle ground between feminine and darkness, youth and sophisticate, the collection signalled yet another resounding success for Miuccia.
