PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – LANVIN
With cries of 'genius' ringing in the air, for Spring/Summer Albert Elbaz yet again presented a masterclass in decadant dressing. An initial slew of signature Lanvin black ruffled dresses, jumpsuits and tailoring, all - as to be expected - exquisitely cut and wielding a wilful elegance, look set to satisfy stockists, yet could be interpreted as slightly safe ground.
A burnt orange interpretation though, replete with singnature ruffle signalled a sea-change and a riot, a veritable explosiong into an unrelenting, unabashed riot of embellishment, draping, and sheer luxury. Wonderment came thick and fast in as chiffons tussled in a layered dress, exquisitely plisséd and draped jumpsuits, separates and dresses in tones of mushroomy nudes, all accessorised with lashings and lashings of awe-inspiring jewellery, again cemented Albert's skill in creating pieces that women are crying out to wear.
This only continued as more jumpsuits came encrusted, in gold sequins - the standout piece where jewellery was near indiscernible from the jumpsuit itself. Glittering one shouldered dresses, in black, that same burnt orange and green accented with blue rounded out a collection, that looks set to further the Elbaz legend, inscribing his intelligent, feminine friendly brand of unashamed glamour as much in aesthetic history as the Art Deco chandelier the collection was delivered under.
