LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - IRIS VAN HERPEN
Titled 'Radiation Invasion' , Iris Van Herpen's collection was inspired by the invisible radiation rays that pervade the modern world and surround those who inhabit it. Accompanied by a distorted soundtrack, itself relaying in waves, Iris's collection struck a chord between sinister and beautiful. The first pieces of the collection, simple structured cocktail dresses in black, with exaggerated silver peplums, developed into almost gnarled pieces, which despite carrying a hint of the macabre, retained an inherent beauty and showcased astounding workmanship.
Hand pleated and gathered snakeskin, undulated around dresses, emerging in blooms at the shoulders and bottom, and sharp, crystallised beads too transformed the threatening into the decadent; Iris Van Herpen's women, in control rather than controlled by the radiation than envelopes them.
