LONDON FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - SIBLING
In a continuation of last season's menswear installations, Lulu Kennedy and the pioneering Fashion East, recognising the vitality of British menswear, thus granted a selection of menswear designers the opportunity to exhibit in Block B of Somerset House. First through the door were Sibling's illustrious knits. Previous seasons have produced 3D rams, and leopard print yet Sibling's Spring/Summer 2010 collection presents a less exaggerated affair and instead focuses upon a more subtle reinterpretation of classics.
A navy and blue breton striped piece appears - on first glance - to be merely that, yet on closer inspection a skull emerges. Likewise the classic cricket knit is embellished absolutely in sequins, transforming a gentrified staple into a piece ripe for the dancefloor. As they created a decoy of the leather moto jacket last season, Sibling have again turned their hand to re-rendering classic pieces in knitear, and almost too the notion of knitwear itself as staid - with their knitted acid wash denim jacket.
Indiscernible from the real deal - even at point blank range - Sibling's skill with yarn and knit, colour and pattern, the subtle and the blatant, continues to forge a new direction for both knitwear and menswear.
