Milan Fashion Week S/S2010 - Jil Sander

MILAN FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - JIL SANDER

In a departure from the sharply structured pieces he presented last season, Raf Simons returned the S/S10 Jil Sander woman to the earth. Signature shift dresses in stone, white and cream were - much like Prada  - unhemmed, scraps of fabric appearing to hang, cu

t and pasted, torn in rags, and roughly patchworked, almost a more organic take on Raf's S/S09 fringing pieces. Furthering the impending trend of all things sheer and mesh, floor length gowns and long sleeved tops in black and white came in mesh with knitted patches, blazers too were abounded with sheer mesh, anchored by panels of weighty fabric.

Metallics made an unexpected appearance, in nude, greens and blues, perhaps a nod to the natural metals underlying the earth or water, but either way, a trend which once propagated by Raf Simons (and hinted at in the menswear shows in London) is sure to run and run. Sharply tailored suits, belted at the waist and paired with billowing wide leg trousers look set to maintain Jil Sander's core customers, demonstrating Raf Simons's unrelenting ability to produce both experimental and directional pieces, whilst concurrenly keeping an eye on the saleable.
