MILAN FASHION WEEK S/S2010 - PRADA

Miuccia Prada's A/W 09 collection was undoubtedly weighty; in both its intellectual premise - angry-eyed warrior women in waders - and its choice of fabrics - boiled wools, in stiff brown tweeds and burgundy's. Summer then presented a distinct about turn, as the optimism hinted at in the Resort collection - all lightweight clashing prints and jauntily tied bikini bottoms - transitioned through.

Getting down to business in a literal sense, raw edged jackets and shorts suits in glistening gun-metal grey, what appeared to be neoprene shorts, paired with an exaggerated peplum, cross bodied top and floral print pieces gave a nod to Prada's signature statement minimalism, and thus their core customer. Messy pigtails and exaggerated red lips though hinted at a youthful girliness, evoked in a contrasting manner to the pastel pinks and blues that reigned over London.

A cropped jacket here, layered bloomers (in sinuous silks rather than the boiled wool of the A/W09 collection), and dresses and skirts cropped just above the knee there, all teemed playfully with beachy photographic prints. Concluding with a run of sheer embellished babydoll's donned over a simple white twinset, Prada's Spring/Summer collection toed that difficult line of providing a plethora of easy, breezy pieces for summer and retaining that uniquely Prada aesthetic.
