PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – CHANEL
Staged at Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon, amongst straw bails, dirt floors, and wooden outbuildings and accompanied by a performance from Chanel ambassador Lily Allen, Karl Lagerfeld turned to peasant inspired dressing, and the original home of the frills and ruffles infiltrating the Spring/Summer 2010 shows.
Frills made an ample appearance in cropped, belted jackets, tiered dresses bursting with plumage at the shoulders and neck and delicately ruffled cropped frock coats, as paired with clogs and metallic garters, Chanel sophistication took a trip to the country. Dirndl skirts, whether featuring upon a shift adorned with roses, in black sheer panels, or Chanel's signature black and white tweet, accented with pink saw a move into overtly feminine evening sophistication, which proceeded to encompass a sheer black lace, longer length skirt.
Tweeds in stone, slate and a more vibrant yellow and pink incarnation gave a nod to the house's history, whilst - paired with wide leg linen trousers with utilitarian pocketing, and cinched sculpturally at the waist - keeping things current. Floral peasant dresses, a standout look, featuring a swathe of fabric flung nonchalantly over a shoulder, concluded a youthful collection with an eye as much as the Lily Allen's as the longtime devotees.
