Paris Fashion Week S/S2010 - Giambattista Valli

PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – GIAMBATTISA VALLI

If Giambattista Valli's A/W 09 collection focused upon clean simple though still evocative silhouettes, then as many other designers have re-interpreted their core DNA, his Spring/Summer 2010 heralded a return to extravagance. Simple cocoon coats and capes, one with dropped shoulders and sleeves cropped at the elbow, another with ruffles carressing the neck, hinted at last season's simplicity before Giambattista ploughed into unremitting embellishment.

Evening gowns came thick and fast; intermittingly with sheer tops, flapper style shreds and ombre nudes bursting into orange plumage, wheather as feathers or ruffles. This textural feast proceeded to encompass coats and dresses, their black and white exo-skeletal prints seemingly created from lashings of delicate plumage. Encompassing a colour palette of jade, orange, black, ivory and leopard print, Valli's dalliance in the decadent - alongside with Lanvin's S/S 2010 show - successfully negotiated luxe (though never overworked) eveningwear whilst defiantly rebuffing financial naysayers.
