Paris Fashion Week S/S2010 - Maison Martin Margiela

PARIS FASHION WEEK S/S2010 – MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA

The rumours regarding the house of Margiela and who presides over its output continue to abound. Nonetheless whomever may have hold of the Margiela reigns for Spring/Summer 2010, in an investigation of volume and texture, whilst not pushing the house in a strikingly new direction, retained its core values

Investigations into volume resulted in signature clean and simple grey jersey t-shirt dresses -structured yet crumpled protrusions exploding from the chest - or in a reinvention of the white blazer with the lapel replaced with stiff origami folds. Textural forays manifested themselves in shredded floor length gowns layered over metallic copper hotpants, scrunched down or embellished thigh high boots and roughly torn petals scattered nonchalantly over digitally printed beachside scenes.

Whether designed by its eponymous founder or in house contributor, as the mystery surrounding Maison Martin Margiela continues to build, a collection bursting with commercially viable and core customer satisfying pieces looks set to keep the house on the straight and narrow - for now at least.
